WAC Golf Classic Hosts Sixth Annual Golf Classic

June 25, 2015 4:45pm

The Wichita Aero Club is hosted its sixth annual Golf Classic on Sunday, June 21, 2015, in conjunction with the PGA Web.com Air Capital Classic.

Nearly 100 golfers braved 95 degree heat on Fathers’ Day, 2015 to play the same track PGA touring professionals would test later in the week. The tournament turned into a contest between a team of determined FlightSafety International managers and Tect Aerospace execs. Both foursomes finished with scores nearly 20 strokes under par in the Scramble format.

The Golf Classic not only offered participants the opportunity to play on the same immaculate course at the Crestview Country Club that the pros play on the following week at the PGA Web.com Tour Wichita Air Capital Classic, it also provided significant funding for the WAC Scholarship program.

Players also competed in longest putt, longest drive, and closest-to-the-pin contests, and had a chance to win a new car with a hole-in-one, courtesy of Davis-Moore Lincoln.

Following the conclusion of 18 holes, golfers enjoyed the 19th Hole Awards Reception, featuring delicious barbecue and the presentation of trophies for the first, second, and third place winners. The 2015 winners of the Edward W. Stimpson Scholarship and Dean Humphrey Scholarships were also be presented.

The Golf Classic supports the Wichita Aero Club’s scholarships and educational initiatives. The Wichita Aero Club and the Wichita Community Foundation currently collaborate on the awarding of two scholarships: the Edward W. Stimpson Scholarship and the Dean Humphrey Scholarship. Both scholarships are designed for collegiate or technical school students with an established aviation-related major or career path. The Stimpson scholarship targets those who may wish to pursue engineering or flight-related careers, while the Humphrey scholarship is designed to support students who are seeking a career in administration, communication, or non-technical disciplines at aviation-related businesses.
