Dr. Dean Headley to Share Latest Airline Quality Ratings with the Wichita Aero Club

Wichita, KS — March 27, 2014 – The Wichita Aero Club will host Dr. Dean Headley, Associate Professor of Marketing in the W. Frank Barton School of Business at Wichita State University, at its April luncheon on Wednesday, April 9, 2014. The luncheon will take place at the Doubletree Hilton Wichita Airport. Dr. Dean E. Headley is Associate Professor of Marketing in the W. Frank Barton School of Business at Wichita State University. Dean is a native of Kansas, receiving his undergraduate business degree from Emporia State University. He also has a Masters of Public Health (MPH) from the University of Oklahoma and an MBA from Wichita State University and a Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University. Dean joined the WSU Barton School faculty in 1988. Dr. Headley teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in marketing research and services marketing in the Barton School.
You may have seen or read about Dr. Headley over the years talking about airlines. Dr. Headley’s research efforts over the past 24 years have been focused on the commercial airline passenger industry. He, and his co-author Dr. Brent Bowen are widely known for development of the Airline Quality Rating (AQR). His work with performance quality measurement in the airline industry is recognized by academics and the business community as a unique contribution to the measurement of service quality. Dean’s research has been published in the Journal of Services Marketing, The Journal of Aviation/Aerospace Education and Research, Journal of Air Transportation, Public Works Management and Policy, numerous proceedings and several textbooks. The Airline Quality Rating (AQR) research conducted by Dr. Headley has garnered national and international attention for WSU. Appearances on ABC’s Good Morning America, NBC’s Today Show, ABC 20/20, CNN, C-Span, major network television news and national radio segments, as well as articles in The New York Times, The Economist, Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Wichita Eagle, Wichita Business Journal, Forbes, Business Week, U.S. News and World Report, Aviation Week and Space Technology, Total Quality Review, Smart Money Magazine, Consumer Digest, Reader’s Digest, and numerous other international, national, and regional press have reported his efforts to measure the quality of airline performance. Headley has also served as an invited expert witness before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Government Operations and has served as an invited speaker and panelist for such groups as the National Academy of Sciences/Transportation Research Board and the Department of Transportation Aviation Consumer Protection Division. The Airline Quality Rating research has been recognized with awards from the American Marketing Association, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, the Travel and Transportation Research Association, and others.
